The launch of the Visa Masters of Movement Non-Fungible Token (NFT) pre-event auction has been announced by the financial services giant and FIFA’s official payment partner for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The NFT is inspired by the unique goals of five football legends, including Jared Borgetti, Tim Cahill, Carli Lloyd, Michael Owen, and Maxi Rodriguez.

The movements of these football stars were turned into an NFT by XK Studio, and bidding for the NFTs has begun on Crypto.com, the official cryptocurrency exchange partner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Collectors who place the winning bid for the Masters of the Movement NFTs will receive the artwork in their Crypto.com wallets along with a high-quality printable file, according to Visa. The footballers featured will sign the NFTs, adding to their authenticity.

“As FIFA World Cup 2022™ approaches, we want to celebrate football, art, and technology through the lens of what makes the FIFA World Cup™ so special – wildly impassioned fans, legendary athletes, and for a few short weeks, the ability to bring the world together in a uniquely connected way,” said Andrea Fairchild, senior vice president and head of sponsorships at Visa.

FIFA has formed numerous alliances in preparation for the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar. While the tournament remains one of the most anticipated sporting events of the decade, the brands collaborating with FIFA are notably pushing forward avenues to record historic moments on the blockchain.

FIFA has an active partnership with Algorand, a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain protocol, in addition to its partnerships with Visa and Crypto.com. The pre-event NFT auction is merely a prelude to the FIFA Fan Festival, which will be held live in Doha. Fans will be able to create their own Masters of the Movement moves, with some of them being minted as NFTs to commemorate the history that will undoubtedly be made.
